Offline Storage Table (OST) files of MS Outlook are unique files that allow you to work even in the offline mode when there is no network connection between Exchange server and MS Outlook. All the worked data during offline mode get stored in OST files. When the network is reestablished then these files get synchronized with Exchange Server database. Unfortunately, the Offline Storage Files also suffer from numerous circumstances of corruption. They too are sensitive to various external and internal improper events such as sudden shutdown, hard disk failure, network breakdown, virus attack etc. When these OST files get damaged, users may find it hard to access their mailbox items.

Inaccessibility of user mailbox items creates a panic condition for user because it results interruption of email communication. In absence of proper email communication, organization cannot perform all operations as well. To deal with such critical situation, Microsoft has provided a free tool named scanost.exe that is an inbuilt free utility. It is also called as Integrity Check Tool which scans the OST file for synchronization issues. Once scan process gets over, this utility itself resolves the problem. It registers the issues in a scan log and provides the information to the user along with generated report based on unresolved queries.

Automatic synchronization of OST:

To synchronize all offline folders automatically every time that you are online or exit Outlook, follow these steps:

1.On the Tools menu, click Options.

2.Click the Mail Setup tab.

3.In the Send/Receive section, click to select the Send immediately when connected check box.

4.Click Send/Receive.

5.In the Send/Receive Groups dialog box, make sure that the Perform an automatic send/receive when exiting option is selected, and then click Close.

6.Click OK.

OST Integrity Check tool

To use the OST Integrity Check tool, you must connect to your Exchange account, so that the tool can scan your mailbox folders and items. If you formerly set up Outlook to start offline automatically, the OST Integrity Check tool will not be able to access your mailbox on the server running Exchange. Therefore, before you run the tool, you need to change your Outlook startup settings temporarily. OST Integrity Check tool does not interact with your Inbox on the server running Exchange server.

The OST Integrity Check tool (Scanost.exe) is installed when you install Outlook. It is located at: drive:\Program

Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.

Repair errors by using Scanost.exe

Exit Outlook if it is running.

Double-click Scanost.exe, located at drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.

If you have set up Outlook to prompt for a profile, the tool will also prompt you for one. In the Profile Namelist, click the profile that contains the .ost file that you want to check.

It is able to repair only the a little damaged OST files and take long time to complete. Severe OST issues cannot be resolved by this tool. If you are looking for complete solution for inaccessible OST file, then try Kernel for OST to PST conversion tool.

Blog Summary:

If inbuilt utility fails completely in resolving your Outlook OST issues, then you should try third party software. Using a proficient OST recovery tool you can extract all the OST items and converts them into PST format.

MS Outlook is a common and popular email client that provides ease in sending and receiving emails because of its friendly and simple environment. The personal storage file (PST) is the store house of all the crucial information of Outlook such as email messages, contacts, addresses, to-do list, sent items, drafts, folders, etc.

Though this file is stored at computer’s disk and not on the insecure network but still there are numerous factors which could harm the file leading to its damage, corruption or deletion.

Reasons for email deletion/corruption:

Accidental deletion of emails and contacts

Corruption of PST

Abrupt closing of Outlook when emails are being sent/receive

Virus attack

PST Header corruption

Server crash

Abrupt system shutdown

To understand the issues more clearly let us consider a real life scenario. A user having windows Vista installed on the system suddenly encountered that the operation system of his computer has crashed. The sudden crash of OS gave him no time to recover the PST file and its items. The hard drive was then formatted and Windows Vista along with Outlook 2007 were re-installed. When the newly installed Outlook 2007 was configured to receive emails that were present in the user’s Gmail account, only new emails were downloaded. All the old emails saved in the old PST were lost.

Apart from this, there are many errors that are commonly encountered which limit the user from retrieving the data items or email messages from PST files. Some of such errors are- Errors have been detected in file ‘file_path’, An unknown error has occurred- 0×80040119, “Errors have been detected in the file . Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool – Repair 2GB PST File, An unknown error has occurred. 0×80040600, etc.

By using a PST repair tool it is extremely simple to recover the emails messages that have been deleted, damaged or corrupted. Moreover, all the issues and errors that pops up while trying to access any of the PST data item can also be efficiently handled. Amongst the exuberant third party utilities, Kernel for Outlook PST Repair is one of the best of its kind.
Kernel for Outlook PST Repair proficiently handles the issues such as header corruption issue of PST; 2 GB file limitation, etc due to which the emails are damaged or deleted. Also, the tool maintains the integrity and accuracy of the recovered emails.

Exchange Server’s dirty shutdown is most prevalent leading to various corruption issues in Exchange Server .EDB and .STM database files. Dirty shutdown is termed as ‘abnormal termination of Exchange database .EDB file’.

Priv1.edb file is the main reason behind dirty shutdown. Any irregularity in this file creates fuss in exchange email and just stops us from mounting any mailbox store any further. If you attempt running Exchange inbuilt utility named eseutil /r for repairing Exchange database file, using eseutil /r <log file name> command, you will see that it won’t work at all because of exchange dirty shutdown.

Running another inbuilt utility eseutil/k makes no use, problem still remains. Running eseutil /k on priv1.edb tells us that database is in dirty shutdown state giving below message,

File: priv1.STM
ERROR: database was not shutdown cleanly (dirty shutdown).

Above result conveys that operation terminated with error -550 (JET_errDatabaseDirtyShutdown, Database was not shutdown cleanly. Recovery must first be run to properly complete database operations for the previous shutdown).

In such circumstances, you are supposed to take help of Kernel for Exchange Server recovery software to recover mails and other mailbox items. Using this software, all dirty shutdown issue gets resolved and you are able to mount mails on Exchange Server once again.

For free download exchange edb recovery software.

Usually after the shut down happens and when you restart the computer and MS Outlook application, you find yourself unable to access the emails, contacts, notes, to do list etc. This situation will induce the fear of data loss and you will question yourself- Now what?

Reconfiguring MS Outlook will make all your emails, notes and other data go in vain and doing this is surely what you must not do. You can recover your emails and other data back without actually reconfiguring MS Outlook. Basically, the MS Exchange Server database i.e. EDB file is a repository where MS Outlook stores all its data which gets corrupt due to sudden system shutdown or application failure. Moreover, MS Exchange Server database file can get damaged or corrupt due to malicious virus attack, file’s header corruption etc, leaving you in a terrible situation.

You can repair the damaged Exchange Server database file using Exchange database recovery or EDB recover process. These professionally devised Exchange recovery software have robust algorithms for repairing damaged Exchange database files. The tool scans the damaged Exchange database file and recovers all emails, contacts, notes etc so that you can save all the recovered data at a desired location. After the software is through with the repairing and recovery process, you can easily access emails via MS Outlook email client without any further reconfiguration.

An expedient Exchange database recovery software application will display a preview of the data recovered before you save the recovered data at a desired location. But selecting a powerful Exchange edb recovery software application from number of Exchange recover software can be a real challenge. Use Kernel for Exchange Database recovery tool to resolve any corruption or data inaccessibility issue arising due to EDB corruption.

If you are using Outlook Express 5.5 version, then you would be familiar with this. In Outlook Express main window of Outlook Express 5.5, in order to browse for tips, you click Next or Previous at the bottom of Tip of the day pane. At that point of time you might have received a script error message. This script error could be bothersome due to repetitive occurrence.

Cause

This problem occurs if you install a program that uses Microsoft DirectAnimation or Microsoft DirectX Transform after installation of Internet Explorer 5.5. The program that uses DirectAnimation or DirectX Transform applies an old module to the computer, which causes this issue. However, if you install the program that is packaged with the fix module for DirectX Media this problem doesn’t occurs.

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue, perform one of the following methods.

Reinstall Internet Explorer 5.5.

Manually reapply a new DirectX Transform module:

Click Start, and then click Run

Type the following command, and then click OK:

regsvr32 Windows_folder\System\Dxtmsft.dll

When the following message is displayed, click OK:

DllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\System\Dxtmsft.dll succeeded.

This way script error problem gets solved. There are times when corruption in Outlook Express .DBX mailbox files occurs. With Kernel for Outlook Express recovery software; this corruption problem too gets solved.
